From Newcastle to Edinburgh

We had a ball in Newcastle! Not only did we make lots of music, even more did I enjoy meeting the "old" guys again. Now we are looking forward to Dublin next year  which will be the 7th meeting of the “European Circus of Flying Frailers".

After Newcastle Dick took me to Edinburgh where I not only refreshed my old passion for Scottish art and history but even more was lucky to join a jam of Scottish folk musicians in the  Cannon Gait's pub. It was a "slow session", led by Nigel Gatherer whose website is worth visiting and who is a very warmhearted and encouraging person. He played the mandolin, there where guitars and other mandolins, a flute (played by a guy who was very helpful in showing me the tunes in the booklets and in the end gave them to me as a present, unbelievable, thanks a lot!) an accordion and Dick's uke and tin whistle. And my banjo. We played together Whiskey before Breakfast, The Wind that Shakes the Barley and Soldier's Joy. The latter is supposed to be a Scottish traditional.  Not writen by Steven Foster?  Who knows?
Martina,  Dick and me tried to join in with their Scottish tunes which sometimes went pretty much ok and sometimes,  well...
Thanks again to Patrick Costello who made me curious of meeting people through music and to Dick and Jackie who hosted me so generously.
