Happy Christmas

As google´s Santa is approaching to this hemisphere it´s time to say Happy Christmas to all my readers/banjoists. Blacky from Kiel sent me this rendition of Silent Night. He learned it from the tablature by Mike Iverson. Have fun! Silent Night

Happy Banjos

Heute ab 19:00 Uhr spielt in Rendsburg auf dem Alstädter Markt die Band "Happy Banjos". Nix wie hin!

Dawgmatic

2nd Kiel Jam

Still on Cloud nine and only gradually landing. Our Kiel Jam was amazing! I will upload some pics and videos to flickr. All participants will get a link where they can register and reminisce. Thank you all for coming!

One More Day

Bild
Weatherforecast for our weekend makes me think that we will not play on the pier this year. Photo shows the view this morning from my office. No need to take your swimsuits with you. Have a nice trip and see you tomorrow. Can't wait.

CCD

"Carolina Chocolate Drops" auf YouTube ansehen! Gestern Abend im Hamburger Knust, ein tolles Konzert!

Erinnerung

"Found in Translation"

Just today I read about this great project. And found Abigail Washburn play the cello banjo. Phew. This video is really amazing.

Konzerte

The Villa

Bild
Our Kiel Jam will take place at the "Villa" in Falckensteiner Strand 35, 24159 Kiel. If you come with your own car it is strongly advised that you get in contact with me. The Villa has only 3 parking places in front of the building. All other cars will be towed away :-( Of course you can bring your luggage, but then you have to move the car away to the public parking place near by (~3 minutes by foot). I can tell/write you details if wanted. Everybody is supposed to bring his own sleeping bag, pillow, teddy bear, blanket with him as there are only foam mattresses in the rooms. A music stand and an instrument stand could be helpful. As is capo and tuner ;-) And don´t forget your instrument(s).

Kiel Jam Oct. 26th - 28th

I thought it would be helpful to collect several of my previous posts about the other Retreats of the "Flying Circus of European Frailers" in Kiel so that newbies get an idea what we were doing. Just click on one of the following links: http://banjo-kiel.blogspot.de/2009/09/kiel-retreat.html http://banjo-kiel.blogspot.de/2009/09/kiel-retreat-2009.html For information about this year`s jam go to http://banjo-kiel.blogspot.de/2012/01/kiel-jam.html http://banjo-kiel.blogspot.de/2012/08/lets-jam-together.html And here are some photos from our last meeting in Dublin: http://www.flickr.com/photos/kolicom/sets/72157628180841829/ (go to the 6th row and watch five pics from the session, the other photos are just Dublin pics). You may see there that we´re not only frailers, although most of us have their banjo with 'em.

CD-Order

Trying not to add too many commercials   to this blog I refrained from mentioning names of brands (other than musicians) on this blog. But I have to tell you this: Yesterday I ordered Michael J. Miles book with tablature of "American Bach". Some hours later I got this email: "Wolfgang- Thanks for your order with ...! USPS (1) Michael J. Miles: American Bach (Book) Your CD has been gently taken from our ... shelves with sterilized contamination-free gloves and placed onto a satin pillow. A team of 50 employees inspected your CD and polished it to make sure it was in the best possible condition before mailing. Our world-renowned packing specialist lit a local artisan candle and a hush fell over the crowd as he put your CD into the finest gold-lined box that money can buy. We all had a wonderful celebration afterwards and the whole party marched down the street to the post office where the entire town of Portland waved "Bon Voyage!" to your package, on its

Punch Brothers

Frailers, come all ye

Some members of the old gang have sent me their applications, some didn´t til now. This is to remind you not to postpone it for too long. First come first served. Bunks are limited. Please let me know your decision soon, so that "the committee" can start planning ;-) Hope to see you all again (and some more)!

Let´s jam together

This blog may have been quiet for quite a while, but not so my banjo. During the summer every now an then I hit the strings to practice the tunes I love (e.g. Whiskey Before Breakfast or Blackberry Blossom, click here ). And now as autumn draws near it really is time to give a call again to the next Kiel jam, aka Flying Circus of European Frailers ;-) After Sheffield in 2008, Kiel in 2009, Newcastle in 2010 and Dublin in 2011 it´s Kiel again in 2012. From Friday Oct. 26th til Sunday Oct. 28th we will hit guitar, uke, mandolin, dobro, saw (!) and of course banjo and the old vocal cords in Kiel-Friedrichsort. We made a reservation for the same place as in 2009, so everything will be as last time: Accomodation is payed per capita (the more attend, the cheaper it will be). We will prepare our own food (Katrina/Martina and me will buy enough for all – drinks too) and everybody is invited to share his skills in the kitchen and to share the costs per capita. There will be no service by

New Post

Yes, this is a new post on the old blog ;-) While strolling through the Michael J. Miles website  and looking for news about tabs for his JSBach-CD (couldn´t find any) I found this news about his European concerts: "Sept 20-23 Johnny Keenan Banjo Festival Tullamore, Ireland"                                                   and "Wednesday, Sept 26, 8:00pm "FROM SENEGAL TO SEEGER:        Stories of the American Banjo" Sage Gateshead in Sheffield, UK This is the UK debut of Miles' renowned one man show ,  " From Senegal to Seeger ."   If anybody around Tullamore and Sheffield is reading these lines: Don´t miss the master - and please tell me about it later on. Hi Alan and Keith, dont´t miss these!

Musik im Norden

Bild
Toms). Dementsprechend laut gings zu, was man hier auf Cluck Old Hen hören kann. Außerdem lernten wir noch Good Night Little Arlo (von Woodie Guthrie für seinen Sohn geschrieben), Fly Around My Pretty Little Miss, Golden Slippers (a Mummers Tune from Philadelphia , Patrick Costellos Freunde werden wissen, was das ist) und Boile That Cabbage Down. Vor allem aber ha

OMG

New Tunes

Two weeks ago I was proud to host the zuzeiten-Redaktionsorchester in my home. We played a lot of tunes. Some could need some practice, some were close to perfect :-) We had lots of fun - as always when two banjos meet. Unfortunately (or lucky you) we didn´t record any of our tries. So I thought it´s time to record some other tunes. I uploaded "Whiskey Before Breakfast" (from Michal J. Miles´ tab collection) and "Blackberry Blossom" (Tabs from Mike Iverson) to my hangout account. You may find them here .

Read Music?

For those who don´t like to learn how to read music, there´s a way. Learn it anyway!! And there´s another way: Just download SnapNPlay to your Android Smartphone. Here´s how it works.

Earl Scruggs

Kiel Jam

Alea Jacta! Next Kiel Jam for the European Circus of Flying Frailers will be this October 26th - 28th. Everything just as last time in Kiel - or Sheffield, or Newcastle or Dublin. We meet and sing and play. The price will depend on the number of applications. No extra fee, we will pay only for the rooms, selfprepared food and drinks. Two years ago it really was a cheap weekend. And lots of fun . This year our songbook will include Irish songs :-) I´ll post more informations later, but the date is fixed now. If anybody wants to stay some more days in Kiel or around, I will help with informations. Just drop me a line. Waiting for your mail.

Happy New Year to You, my dear reader. Hope to meet in Kiel this year. We are planning the next station of the Flying Circus of European Frailers for the last weekend in October this year. More later this week.
